Jason Castro released a new album on Tuesday, November 9. Its title, Who I Am, was the inspiration for his tweet:

New Interview and Ad for Jason's Debut Soap Appearance

Jason Castro will be appearing on the popular CBS daytime soap, "The Bold & the Beautiful", on July 29th and 30th.

Check out this clip in which Jason talks about his guest role on the soap.

"Oliver's having a situation with his girl, and I'm just there to smooth it out, you know? That's what I do." LOL! Jason... you slay me.

The soap introduced Jason on a previous episode in which we were serenaded poolside by his last single, "That's What I'm Here For". Click here to watch the full episode.

To promote his daytime soap debut, Jason talked to "We Love Soaps" about the American Idol audition that almost didn't happen, his charity work for "Malaria No More", and going from shy to being recognized everywhere he goes.

I’m still adjusting. The hardest part is that I can’t get away. I can’t hide, I can’t put on a hat. It’s definitely a challenge because I am a private person. I am definitely outgoing and I enjoy meeting new people. I am not used to having the attention all the time. It’s one thing to have it on a stage, then being off stage and actually talking. It definitely makes me uncomfortable. But I take it one day at a time. And every time someone recognizes me it means I have a chance to share some music with them. I’m very grateful for that.

That selection in bold sounds familiar. Hmmm. Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah... I told him that Saturday. Haha.

In regard to his American Idol audition, he said, "They (the producers) saw something in me. Now, I just have to do it. I just have to work on it."

Norway welcomes Jason

Jason has spent the week in Norway in interviews and radio appearances to promote his debut single, "Let's Just Fall in Love Again", which is number one for the third straight week there. He ended the week with a performance at the VG-Lista Festival in front of "6 digits".

Accompanying Jason on the trip were his lead guitarist, Stephen Kanicka, and manager, David Helfant. David was kind enough to share these photos with us via Twitter:

"Let's Just Fall in Love Again" is the first single from Jason's self titled debut album available NOW in stores and all digital media outlets. The current single from the album is "That's What I'm Here For", which Jason performed on the television show "The Bachelor: Jason and Molly's Wedding" on March 8th and on The Ellen Show on April 22nd. As much as we'd all like to lather Jason up, this news has nothing to do with bath time. Now, I know what you're thinking. Bummer, right?

Not necessarily. According to an EW article retweeted by CBS today:

"American Idol alum Jason Castro will make an appearance on CBS’ The Bold and The Beautiful in July. In an episode that he’ll tape next week at the sudser’s Los Angeles set, Castro will play himself and sing his new single “Love Uncompromised” in a scene involving Hope (Kimberly Matula) and Oliver (Zack Conroy)."

Alright, fair enough. Jason on a soap isn't quite as exciting as him covered in it, but I'll take what I can get. ;)

Jason Castro joins the fight against Malaria as the "Stayin' Alive" Ambassador for Malaria No More.

The "Stayin' Alive" campaign is Malaria No More's flagship grassroots movement, focused on empowering American students to fight malaria through school dances and other events.

"I'm excited to join Malaria No More's efforts and show our students how they can help," said Jason Castro. "I was personally surprised to learn that malaria continues to be an epidemic in parts of the world, so I'm thrilled to do whatever I can to raise awareness of the continuing fight against this disease."

"Malaria is a disease of the blood that is caused by a parasite transmitted from person to person by certain types of mosquitoes. Malaria symptoms, which appear about 9 to 14 days after the infectious mosquito bite, include fever, headache, vomiting and other flu-like symptoms. If drugs are not available for treatment or if the parasites are resistant to them, the infection can lead to coma, severe life-threatening anemia, and death by infecting and destroying red blood cells and by clogging the capillaries that carry blood to the brain (cerebral malaria) or other vital organs. Worldwide, malaria causes almost 250 million illnesses and more than one million deaths annually." In Africa alone, Malaria kills a child every 30 seconds.

Yesterday, I tweeted that March was a good month to be a Jason Castro fan. I was referring to the sizzling picture from his 2010 calendar that graces my cubicle wall. But there are so many more reasons to smile today.

In addition to providing the music for the upcoming "The Bachelor" wedding, Jason officially announced today that his debut self-titled album will be released on April 13th.

The next single from the album, "That's What I'm Here For", will be released to radio and digital retailers on March 8th to coincide with his television appearance on "The Bachelor". Jason will perform the single on the show as well as "Over the Rainbow", which will be available as the "B-side" to "That's What I'm Here For".

According to the offical press release, "a full scale US tour in support of 'Jason Castro' will be announced shortly."

It's official. Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney tied the knot on February 27th in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Jason performed "Over the Rainbow" as the bride entered and "That's What I'm Hear For" as the couple exited.

"The Bachelor: Jason and Molly's Wedding" will air on March 8th at 8pm EST on ABC. Be sure to tune in. This could be pretty huge for Jason... our Jason. Jason Castro. =)

JC: There's this quote from my first manager when I was playing drums in a band. We were rehearsing one time and getting ready for a showcase when he said this line that stuck out to me: "You've got to be undeniable." That just stuck with me. No matter what you do, it's not just about being the best, but being undeniable. That's good advice right there!

While Jason tours the country with Matt Hires and Caitlin Crosby, in many cities he's making lunchtime stops at local high schools. He sings, signs autographs, poses with students, and even eats lunch with them. It's a brilliant strategy to capture the teen market and it's working.

Kissmas Wishes

I stumbled across this blog post more than a week ago, but I was hesitant to post it because the performance had not been added to Jason's schedule on JCM. Since both he and his manager have confirmed they're heading that way this morning, I guess the cat's out of the bag now.

It's a blog post by Chris Kelly, a disc jockey with 96.1 KISS FM. I believe Kissmas Wishes is an annual event sponsored by the radio station, and this year, Jason is kicking it off for them. There was a sweetness about this blog post that I really loved, so I wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to read it.

We will have Jason on the air with us I think about 5:30 or so on December 7th, then he’ll sit down by the fire with as many of you as we can cram around it, and do some acoustic tunes on the guitar for you. In many ways, he’s the perfect artist for this kind of setting.

By a fire? I am so jealous. Yeah, yeah... I know. I had Jason on the beach, but can you blame a girl for wanting it all?

Nice article on Matt Hires regarding the upcoming state lines tour with Jason.

"Although I love playing acoustic shows, I'm really excited to be taking a band out on tour with me," says Hires. "It will be nice to present the songs in a way that is more fully realized. Fans can expect a little rock-n-roll, a little bit of acoustic balladry, and some stuff in the middle. I'm also really excited to have Jason Castro joining me on the road. He is a great musician. An "Exotic Gem" Performs at Day's Jewelers

A former American Idol finalist put on a little show in South Portland Saturday.

Jason Castro, who finished 4th in Idol's 7th season, came to Day's Jewelers to promote the company's exotic gem show. Castro's self-titled album is scheduled to be released early next year, but the small crowd at Day's got to hear his music for free, alongside the jewelry's store's gemstones.

Castro didn't spend much time in Maine, but he tried to take in the sights. Castro said his life has completely changed since he left American Idol. And he still feels like he's living a dream.

November 3rd, 2008. Remember? In the middle of the night, Jason surprised us with an original song. It was called "Sweet Medicine", and it was beautiful. From that moment, we've been anxiously awaiting his music..his debut album. And we've been patient.

Many fans even requested time off from work to attend CD release parties and to celebrate, in general, the arrival of Jason's first album on the Atlantic Records label. It was so close we could almost reach out and touch it.

This evening, Jason posted the following update on his official site:

I previously told you that the album would be out in November, but it’s going to be early next year instead. As much as I can't wait to get my music out there, I really don't want to rush anything either.

I have to be honest, my stomach sank when I read it. I was disappointed.

On the other hand, I would rather wait for a product that he believes in than settle for something done "half ass" to meet a deadline. We've waited this long, what's another couple of months? I've also found that passing the time is a little easier knowing that he's on the road promoting the project he's worked so diligently on and that there's a chance our paths will cross while he's at it.

And so we wait. As his devoted have done since the American Idol tour ended in September of last year. There's no way we'd give up on him now. We believe in him too much.

Is Jason a breast man?

I don't know. You'll have to ask him that. But breast cancer awareness sure seems important to him.

During a radio stop in Jackson, MS, Jason autographed a pink bra for charity. I'm trying to get some additional information on this, but I can only assume that the bra will be auctioned off at a charity event for breast cancer awareness month. Regardless, he did it, and thanks to Dave Helfant, we have proof:

After a short stop in Tennessee, it was off to Roanoke, VA where he performed "abreast" Blake Lewis for the "Pretty in Pink Ladies Night Out" on October 1st. What? It's a word.

Anyway....

The event raised $7,000 for breast cancer research, and $1,000 of it went for a seat next to Jason on stage! Wow! Worth every penny.

Wendy Maxey, reporter for The Roanoke Times online, was present for the event. She reports Jason "brought tears to the eyes of some not to mention a singalong -- with his sweet rendition of 'Hallelujah'". Jason and Blake teamed up to perform an original arrangement of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" featuring Jason on ukulele and Blake on...you guessed it...the beat box. The sound is really distorted in this video, but I think it may have been pretty awesome to hear it live.

Jason started the day in Jackson, MS as guest DJ for Y101.7 FM, playing songs from his iPod. His manager, David Helfant, was kind enough to shoot some video for us.

Performing Hallelujah...

Then, off to Memphis for BBQ and a stop by Sun Records, the label smart enough to be the first to sign Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. Before that, however, Jason made a stop by Q107.5 to record a few liners....arguably the most adorable 41 seconds ever captured on video.

Jason breaks into the Billboard Hot 100!

Jason's first single, "Let's Just Fall in Love Again", debuted this week at number 59 on Billboard's Hot 100 Digital Songs. Nearly 23,000 digital copies have sold in the one week since its release with only word of mouth advertising and a few radio plays in a small handful of cities.

Jason is currently preparing for a radio tour to promote the single. In the midst of the tour, a few live shows have already been confirmed:

September 17 - Little Rock, AR - Metroplex
September 18 - Kansas City, MO - TBD
September 25 - Dallas, TX - Texas State Fair

I imagine this tour will find the single moving up the charts faster than even we anticipated. It will be exciting to see just how far it goes.

Great review of Jason's performance at The Grove.

This reporter/photographer was up front and center thinking that this would be another "American Idol" contestant just making an appearance to keep his exposure alive. What a mistake. Jason Castro was greeted with complimentary cheers from the Michelle Branch fans. However, once Castro strummed that first note on his guitar, there was no doubt this former "Idol" contestant can carry his own performance.

It makes my heart happy that others are finally starting to see what we've known all along. Jason Castro is the real deal.

Michael Slezak, our favorite EW journalist, talks to Jason about his new single. My favorite excerpt from the interview:

EW: What about the whistling that starts the track? Where did you come up with that?
JC: It’s the melody from the chorus. It was going to be some line, maybe a guitar line — but the whistling just kind of stuck out. It felt like that kind of song. When have you heard whistling lately? So we were like “Let’s whistle it up!”

EW: Who’s doing the whistling? You?
JC: That is not me, you would be surprised! Don’t tell anybody! Everybody in the studio took turns. We can all whistle — but it wasn’t like that whistle. [Laughs.] That was the key to the project, finding a whistler.

EW: Did someone win the whistle-off?
JC: Somebody in the studio. And actually we brought in an outside whistler, and I don’t want to say it, but he couldn’t cut it. But I don’t want to talk bad about any whistlers around town or anything.
